Ropes should be stored in reels,duly packed in dry condition,free from possible attack by corrosive agents like moisture, dust, or acidic fumes. If the ropes are to be stored for a long length of time in warm or hot conditions, then the reels should be mounted on a horizontal shaft and turned over periodically to maintain uniform lubrication. If this is not done, the lubricant will drain to one side only.
If the period of storage is too long, then the ropes are to be re-lubricated at an interval depending upon the environment. Reusable used groups should essentially be stored on reels as the new ropes.
